Filters, Macro Workshops, and Photographs

Do not try to follow this post…

… because it is going to make about as much sense as the video that it accompanies. Take it as a collection of random thoughts and and excuse to show off some of my pictures and some of my friends’ also.

A self-assessment wasp

When I want to know where my own photography is these days, I photograph a wasp, show it around, get some feedback, and see what I need to be working on. And this is it. Feel free to leave a comment - I know what I don’t like, but what about you?

The video that this article links to (and is included below) is a strange one. I am always happy to be asked to review a good product and K&F Concept has been great about sending me good products to review. But recently, my focus on macro instruction has been so intense, I have not really been thinking like a normal photography product reviewer - and this video was the result. I went out and shot the video on a busy Sunday and it was only in the edit that I realized it was terrible - good fun, but terrible. That is when the Arlen idea popped into my head. The plan was to salvage the video so that I could use the footage I had, promote the excellent product, and entertain you. I have no idea if it worked. I am, at this writing, still waiting for judgment from my superb copy editor, Laura, who will tell me if I can release it.

If you would like to help Allan Walls Photography continue to produce free content but you don’t fancy the idea of actually giving any money to the cause, there is a way you can do that. If you do your Amazon shopping using this link, the channel will make a little commission on qualified sales. That is because I am an Amazon Affiliate and this is a paid link. You get your stuff at the same price, but we get a little commission from Amazon. Can there be an easier way to help out?! Just click the link and go buy something - you know you want to. https://amzn.to/3eV74vk

Presumably, she said I could.

Believe it or not, these images were all shot using the filters (which I really do love - the filters, not the pictures).

The filters in the review are not out yet, but this is the set they add to. I will post a link as soon as the two ND filters are added!

Thanks to Martin Howard for letting me use this rather distracting image…

What do I do macro? I don’t remember

And to Bud Perrot for letting me show off a couple of his images from the recent workshop we undertook in his studio. A great experience for all concerned!

Talk about an intense training experience!

While I don’t currently have any openings in the mentoring program, if it is something you might like to consider you are welcome to contact me to discuss and possibly get a spot on the waiting list. If you are looking for a workshop that is not quite this exclusive, we should have something scheduled in the spring - I’ll let you know.

This is an ambush bug - one of my very favorite subjects

These ambush bugs are only a few mm long and very hard to find, but at 10X they are towering and ferocious looking. Watching then catch and eat bees twenty times their size is not soon forgotten.

The Godox MF12s are here - review video coming soon!

I will be back in a little while with something a little more sane and organized. I hope.

P.S. Arlen has returned home. Wherever that is.
